Tell the Bush administration to help gray wolves recover!

Since the Bush administration stripped gray wolves of their endangered species protection in March, more than 100 have been gunned down outside Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Hundreds more were being targeted for slaughter when a federal court issued an injunction that restores the wolf's federal protection. Please tell the Interior Department to ensure a healthy future for wolves by promoting their full recovery in the northern Rockies.

I find it inexcusable that more than 100 gray wolves in the Northern Rockies have been killed since your agency stripped them of endangered species protection in March -- and that more than 80 percent of the wolf population could be slaughtered under state laws and plans.

The comeback of gray wolves in the Northern Rockies is one of America's greatest wildlife success stories.  In Yellowstone National Park, in particular, it's clear to see how the wolf's restoration has revived the ecosystem -- allowing hawks, eagles, small animals and trees to flourish.  Reducing the wolf population to the federal government's goal of only 300 animals would push this iconic species back to the brink of extinction.

Your agency is charged with protecting wildlife, not handing them over for mass killing. Please ensure a healthy future for the wolves of Yellowstone and the Northern Rockies by ensuring full recovery and connected ecosystems. All citizens should be able to enjoy these magnificent icons of the American West for generations to come.
