A deadly new Arctic Oil Rush is underway, and it's threatening polar bears and all wildlife that get in the way.

In the biggest oil and gas sale in Alaska's history, the Bush Administration has just auctioned off the polar bear's home in the Chukchi Sea to Shell and other oil giants.

Instead of safeguarding Alaska's polar bears -- which are already suffering the ravages of global warming -- the Bush Administration has now placed these imperiled bears in danger from a catastrophic oil spill.

Make no mistake: an oil spill in the Chukchi Sea is all but assured. The Bush Administration's own scientists estimate that once the drilling begins, there's more than a 50 percent chance of a large spill.

Polar bears would stand little chance of survival in the wake of a massive spill. Oil covered bears would be poisoned in their attempts to clean the oil off their fur.

Even worse: the effects of such a spill would persist for years, because the oil industry has no proven method for cleaning up oil spills in icy waters!

Please us stop Big Oil from drilling in Alaska's prime polar bear habitat -- until the Bush Administration protects these imperiled bears and their critical habitat under the Endangered Species Act.

Tell your Senators to support the Kerry bill (S.2568) that will ban all oil and gas exploration activities in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas until polar bears are protected:
