Tell the Senate to act now to cut global warming pollution!

Several leading scientists have predicted that global warming could render the Arctic Ocean ice-free in the summer by 2012. Polar bears rely on summer sea ice for survival, and without dramatic cutbacks in global warming pollution, they could face extinction as early as 2050. As the world's leading global warming polluter, America has an obligation to take action now to defuse the climate crisis.

Tell your Senators to support amendments that will strengthen our nation’s first-ever global warming legislation -- the Climate Security Act (S. 2191) -- and then to pass it immediately.

I urge you to strengthen and pass S. 2191, America's Climate Security Act. The Nobel Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has made it clear that we must take urgent action to curb global warming emissions in order to defuse the climate crisis and avoid its most catastrophic consequences. The longer we delay, the greater the impacts, and the more dramatically we will have to cut emissions in future years to achieve the same results. 
 
Please support amendments to the Climate Security Act that would speed near-term cuts in global warming pollution, set more ambitious targets for long-term cuts, and make greater investments in energy efficiency and clean energy.
  
I also ask you to oppose any weakening amendments that will compromise the integrity of the emissions cap or slow the overall emissions reduction timeline.

It's too late for half measures. Please do your part to stave off the greatest environmental threat of our time by strengthening and passing America's Climate Security Act.
